| Legend |
| Down through the corridors of time, man has symbolically associated himself under a seal or sign…the Coat of Arms of his homeland, a simple Christian Cross designating his faith..the emblem of his beloved lodge or organization…his way of saying “These are my associates”. Therefore the faculty and student body presents the Academic Seal of SOUTH OAK CLIFF HICH SCHOOL. |
| LEGEND OF THE SEAL: |
The outer circle is symbolic of eternity, having no ending. It is our constant reminder to build true spiritual values based upon belief in the true and only God. Honesty, truthfulness and all the ideals, which build good character, is a goal of our student body.
The motto indicates our willingness to be fair with all men in our everyday life. SPORTMANSHIP…to be proud in victory and gracious in defeat…that great gift of respect we show our opponents and team-mates in all phases of life; whether it be sports, social life, cooperation with the faculty, or relationships with each other. CITIZENSHIP…helps us to understand our neighbor and our government system…through this medium we shall build a greater tomorrow for our city, state, and nation. Good citizenship includes good conduct, self-control, and the ability to choose wisely.
SCHOLARSHIP is knowledge well preserved…as we study today, we shall teach in the future…For a thoroughly trained mind is an important mind! Our goal: Every pupil to do his best according to his ability. FRIENDSHIP is scriptural…for without friends, a man becomes despondent – his life shrinks to darkness. WE WILL BE FRIENDS TO EVERYONE…to be known as a friendly school, eager to welcome new pupils and create an atmosphere which will lead to life-long friendships.
The roped circle is symbolic of the Great Southwest in which we live. We are proud of the history of our area…we are training for an even better history through knowledge and understanding.
The laurel wreath indicates our peaceful attitude towards our neighbor and willingness to “Do unto others as we would have them do unto us”.
The flaming torch is the standard of education around the world. As students of South Oak Cliff High School, we realize the challenge that lies before us. With this though in mind, we are learning how to better ourselves and our communities through education.
The fierce Golden Bear is our standard of battle. It shall be known to every school in the state as a willing contender in the athletics and other interscholastic events. The bear is a peaceful animal, but enticed to fight, it shows intruders that it is an able warrior…The Golden Bears will give a good account of themselves.
The two stars represent our stand in teaching the ideals of our democratic government. Democracy in action is practiced in our school elections and other activities. By the study and practice of Democratic ideals in high school we will be able to take our place as happy, intelligent, worthwhile citizens in our community.
Grateful acknowledgment is given to Mr. Gene Fallwell for designing the seal and his help on the Legend. He was a member of the Dads Club. |
